INDIA REPUBLIC DAY 2025

Commissioned by Google Doodles, this artwork celebrates India's Republic Day through a visual tribute to the country's extraordinary cultural and ecological diversity.
The concept was inspired by the Republic Day Parade and reimagined as a procession of anthropomorphic wildlife characters dressed in authentic regional attire. Rather than portraying people directly, native animals and birds became ambassadors of India's many cultures, creating a celebration that is joyful, inclusive, and deeply connected to nature.
The project involved extensive research into India's traditional clothing, folk art, architecture, musical instruments, festivals, and wildlife from every region of the country. Each character was carefully developed to reflect authentic cultural references while highlighting native species and their importance within India's natural heritage.
REPUBLIC DAY THEMES
Inspired by India's Republic Day celebrations, these three concepts explore different ways of bringing together the country's diverse cultures, traditions, and communities into a single visual narrative.
CONCEPTUALIZATION - PARADE MARCH
We chose the Parade March concept as the foundation for the doodle. To celebrate India's diversity while avoiding religious or cultural sensitivities, I replaced human figures with anthropomorphic animals dressed in traditional regional attire. The concept evolved from featuring India's big cats to a wider mix of native animals and birds, reflecting the country's rich cultural and natural diversity.
STORYTELLING – CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT
Each character was inspired by extensive research into India's regional attire, traditional art forms, musical instruments, festivals, and native wildlife. By combining authentic cultural elements with Indian wildlife, I created a cast of anthropomorphic characters that celebrates India's remarkable diversity through a unified visual language.
The moodboard became the foundation of the project, helping shape each character's personality, costume, and cultural details while drawing inspiration from every region of India - North, South, East, West, and Central.
